2013 / Liquid chalk on window / 150 x 185 cm / 59 x 73 in
Site-specific drawing on a window in the context of disConnect curated by Lara Merrington. 3 Artists and 1 curator came together to challenge their individual practices by working in each others presence to produce new work. A hachure map of Mount Shasta, a place charged with symbolism, centered on the belief that a hidden city of advanced beings from the lost continent of Lemuria lies within it became the basis of my work. This older mode of representing relief through different strokes provided a metaphor for the journey through shared insights, inspirations and concerns around the themes of nature, disconnection, invisibility and the imaginary. Christoph Rothmeier and Kyli John, participating artists, were invited to draw in order to incorporate their particular gestural qualities into the map.
