Monumental spatial drawing created by knotting a continuous line materialized in VHS magnetic tape through the technique of crochet. Using hooks of varying thicknesses, a series of surfaces is produced and later assembled in a manner akin to a puzzle. The protuberances—initially perceived as mistakes by untrained hands in the art of crochet—ultimately define the characteristic quality of the Magnetic Field series. They evoke natural formations such as lava flows or the bulging growth of tree trunks, allowing the work to oscillate between control and emergence, intention and accident. Embedded within the VHS tape are metallic oxides once coded with moving images, voices, and fragments of lived time. Removed from their original technological function, these materials persist as a kind of dormant archive: a residue of memory stripped of readability yet still charged with presence. The tape’s mineral quality—its dark, reflective surface and metallic density—evokes both geological matter and cosmic debris, as though information had sedimented into a physical landscape. Through repetition, knotting, and accumulation, the work reclaims obsolete media as material substance, shifting the archive from the immaterial realm of data into one of weight, texture, and embodied time.
