Ridges and grooves (whistle) 2021
3 part textile, raw wool and VHS magnetic tape I 150 x 666 cm
(woven by Pedro Mendoza)
Ridges and Grooves (whistle) transfers a selection of the imprints left when the VHS tape is glued and unglued onto adhesive tape. These imprints are created by micro-gestures that create endless miniature worlds. Enlarging and reproducing them through weaving, a practice of storytelling and preserving cultural history, is somewhats paradoxical as weaving the VHS tape renders it permanently unreadable. An attempt to preserve through erasure.
